Winter Solstice at Newgrange is a batik painting of the view of the rising sun from inside the chamber on the morning of the Winter solstice in Newgrange every December when the day is the shortest and the night is the longest. The chamber is gradually lit up from the light of the sun when it aligns with the lightbox opening above the entrance to Newgrange.
The art is painted in deep browns and orange with a burst of rich yellow colour. A certain amount of artistic license is used.
